Stroma Cairns is a director and writer based in London. She has an intimate and honest filming approach, paired with an innate love of storytelling. Her British aesthetic comes from childhood, growing up moving around England. She is drawn to merging the genre of fiction and non fiction, with stories revolving around youth and family.
Stroma directed second block (episodes 4, 5 & 6) of BAFTA winning series MOOD, a 6 part TV musical drama created by Nicôle Lecky. MOOD was broadcast on BBC3 and BBC America.
In 2019 Stroma was selected to direct one of Channel 4’s BAFTA nominated ON THE EDGE anthology of episodes. The directing scheme focuses on finding diverse and exciting new talent in the UK.
Prior to this her short film IF YOU KNEW premiered at Sheffield DocFest. It went on to receive the Jury Special Commendation award at BFI London Film Festival and London Short Film Festival. ‘If You Knew’ also won Best Short at Open City Doc Festival and was shortlisted for a Grierson trustees award.
Stroma is currently in development with her debut feature.
